1 IN THE HEAT OF THE SUN

The People's Republic of China has produced -- and, to its shame, censored -- many fascinating films about life during the Cultural Revolution. None, though, has the explosive vitality of this coming-of-age romp, directed by first timer Jiang Wen (China's most volcanic star actor) and written by rebel novelest Wang Shuo. A teenager named Monkey grows up raw on the mean streets of Beijing; when not annoying the Red Guards with his mischief, he soars into dreamland with a beautiful girl. As emotionally rolling and visually orgasmic as a Martin Scorsese melodrama, Jiang's film is a glorious act of political and artistic defiance. It was, of course, surpressed for a year in China.
`emotionally rolling and visually orgasmic' なんていうのは当たっていると 思いますが、このコメントって、ちょっと政治的な評価が大き過ぎるんじゃ ないでしょうか。そういう映画じゃないと思うのですが。 ひょっとしたら電影局の要求したという７ヵ条の修正箇所にそのようなところが あったかも知れませんが、もし仮にそうだとしても、評価はできあがった作品 に対するものであるべきです。なんだか妙ななオマケ点をもらったようで、 すっきりしません。
